Invalidation stops on every graded alert
Every 0DTE Confluence Discord card includes a Stop — the SPY level where the thesis is wrong. It is not a vibe, not “give it room,” and not an invitation to average down. This page explains what invalidation means and why a blind premium % stop is a poor substitute.
What “invalidation” means
A graded setup is a thesis at a rail: call wall, put wall, gamma flip, expected-move edge, opening-range edge, and similar structure. The invalidation is the 1-minute close that proves that thesis wrong — usually a reclaim back through the rail against the trade (or a decisive break that flips the role of the level).
Example pattern (educational, not a recommendation): put fade at a call wall → invalidation might be a decisive close back above the wall after rejection failed. Call reclaim off a put wall → invalidation might be a close back below the swept/reclaimed support.
Why not a blind −25% premium stop?
SPY 0DTE premiums swing hard inside normal noise. A fixed −25% on premium often sits inside that noise — it can stop you out of a setup that still has a valid structural thesis, or fail to protect you when you kept adding size into a loser. Our approach:
- Working stop = structural break of the invalidating rail (stated in SPY points on the card).
- Premium % cap = optional hard ceiling on full quantity — not a replacement for the rail.
- No averaging down on losers — the premium on cheap OTM tickets is often already the max risk.
How to read the Stop field
- Read Idea + Grade — only act if you understand the thesis in one sentence.
- Note Stop on the Levels guide before you size the ticket.
- If SPY prints a 1-minute close through that level against you, the setup is done — flatten; do not “hope.”
- Time stops still apply late day (force flat near the close / earlier on event days) even if the rail has not broken.
Invalidation vs scale targets
Invalidation answers “when am I wrong?” Scale targets answer “where do I bank if I’m right?” — often the next wall or magnet. Do not confuse the two. Holding through a broken thesis because a distant magnet “should pull” is how 0DTE theta + wrong-side delta compounds losses.
